LUMECCA BY INMODE

What Does INTENSE PULSE LIGHT Treat?

  • Sunspots and age spots: Brown pigmentation from sun exposure

  • Freckles: Particularly effective for patients who freckle easily or heavily with sun exposure

  • Redness and broken capillaries: Small visible red vessels in the skin

  • Cherry angiomas: The small, bright red benign growths that commonly appear on the face and body

  • Rosacea: Lumecca is particularly well-suited for reducing the persistent redness and episodic flushing associated with rosacea.

Intense Pulsed Light is also used for general skin wellness — patients who simply want clearer, brighter, more refined skin, even without a specific concern driving the visit.

What is Intene Pulsed Light (IPL)?

IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment is also known as a photofacial. It uses a precisely calibrated burst of bright light to target pigment in the skin, including both red and brown coloration. Patients with sunspots, freckles, visible red capillaries, cherry angiomas, or rosacea are among those who benefit most.

Beyond correcting visible pigmentation, Lumecca also stimulates collagen production — making it a treatment that improves skin quality overall, not just surface color.

Who is intense pulsed light good for?

A common patient is someone who loves time outdoors and accumulates sun damage every summer — freckles, spots, uneven tone — and wants to reset their complexion heading into fall. Lumecca makes that possible in one to three sessions. Rosacea patients are also excellent candidates and consistently see meaningful improvement in both background redness and episodic flushing.

What to Expect Before, During, and After Treatment

Before your appointment: Avoid direct sun exposure in the weeks leading up to your appointment. Because accumulated sun damage is often the reason patients seek Lumecca in the first place, it's important that the skin isn't being further stimulated by UV exposure immediately before treatment.

During treatment: You'll wear protective eye coverings throughout the procedure. An ultrasound gel is applied to the skin — the same as with laser hair removal — before the IPL handpiece delivers light pulses to the treatment area. The flashes are intense but brief.

After treatment: Recovery is simple. Expect mild redness for the first day. Pigmented spots — freckles and sunspots — may temporarily darken to a purplish-red color before they fade and flake away over the course of one to two weeks. This darkening is a normal part of the process and a sign the treatment is working.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

One to three treatments, depending on the concern and the patient's goals. Many patients achieve their target result after a single session. More stubborn or deep pigmentation may benefit from two to three sessions.
